When designing chips for the Automotive market, quality and safety are critical. Hardware and software need to be thoroughly tested, both separately and together.
On the Hardware side, RTL verification is not enough: gate-level netlists must also be validated with scenarios that extend beyond test vectors.
On the Software side, advanced microcontrollers from ARM and other vendors are becoming commonplace. Firmware needs to be part of the pre-silicon validation.
